Americanism Committee
One of our many goals is to quicken the spirit of American patriotism in our Community and in our Youth, and to stimulate an awareness — a genuine feeling of pride and respect toward our great Nation, its history, and our Flag.
Each year we participate in the Americanism Essay Contest which is a program of the Elks’ Grand Lodge Fraternal Committee. This contest is offered to students in the 5th through 8th grades and promotes patriotism among young people. We partner with a local Freehold Township school and receive essays from them each year. The Americanism Committee at Freehold Elks Lodge participated in the Freehold Borough’s Memorial Day parade for members and community groups which was followed by an Open House at our lodge. We hold an annual Flag Day Ceremony with participation of our Corporal Phillip J. Reynolds Marine Corps League and Scout troop 160. Typically, we invite Borough Council members and speakers.
We also hold a 9/11 ceremony to remember those lost on the 20th Anniversary of that fateful day. We take part in the NJ Run for the Fallen and we will take part in the District Flag Retirement Ceremony held each year in October. We volunteer at our own Speakeasy Grill to raise money for gift certificates for the future winners of our Americanism essay contest. We hold various events to fundraise each year. Our fundraisers in the past have been Artie Hoffman Psychic Medium, Rocky Horror Picture Show & 50/50’s. We are always looking for new fun ways to raise money.
